XviD is an open source MPEG4 codec for educational purposes only. It is developed by the XviD team.
I don't know if it's illegal to have a binary distribution as well, so with downloading it you agree to keep me free of any legal issues. This binary is _just for testing the code_ and to improve it, as we can't figure every situation out ourselfes. Thanks for respecting this! :)

I got involved in XviD development in january 2002, where XviD lacked a real internal curve compression algorithm for 2 pass encoding mode. That's where I started modifying those algorithms in a more nandub-like manner. I added some other nice features which helped the visual quality a bit (namely the "modulated quantizer type" and the quantizer ranges).

If you're using the codec in windows (well, the only case why you can be here, since in *NIX you'd simply compile it yourself to test it) you may want to use DebugView f...

XViD is open source, so I'm quite sure it's legal to re-distribute the source code... just don't sell it of course ;)

I like this video codec a lot. It is more open and much better in quality then others. They even have the best and fastest support for 64-bit AMD Athlon 64 / Opteron CPUs. Great work!
