Icelandic popstar Hafdis Huld has been holed up in a converted barn in a remote part of Yorkshire for the best part of the year working on her as-yet-untitled second solo album, and now the promo machine is finally ready to roll out of the shed. The first single has been announced as ‘Kongulo’, an upbeat, percussive pop song co-written with multi-instrumentalist Tom Howe, due on June 21st. Taking its title from the Icelandic word for spider, the song was inspired by ‘The Human Spider’ Alain Robert, the climate crusading Frenchman who has scaled over 85 giant buildings with his bare hands since the early 1980s. A typically quirky video featuring Hafdis and a man in a spider costume larking about in the woods will be available soon.

With a production team headed up by award-winning studio man Calum MacColl, Hafdis has created an album with a warm, organic sound that she intends to release on her own label later in the year. “It was lovely getting back into the studio. Th...
