Shutdown4U ist ein Prgramm, das zeitgesteuert Windows herunterfahren kann. Dabei können alle vier von Windows unterstützten Modi (Rechner ausschalten, herunterfahren, neustarten und Benutzer abmelden) verwendet werden.

Vor dem Herunterfahren kann eine bestehende Internetverbindung beendet werden. Dies ist sinnvoll, wenn ein Online Counter läuft, der die Gebühren, Zeit oder transferierten Bytes mitzählt. Dieser erkennt dann automatisch, dass die Verbindung beendet wurde, und beendet damit auch die Aufzeichnung.

Shutdown4U kann automatisert mit Windows mitgestartet werden. Hierbei ist es möglich, den Timer sofort zu aktivieren. So kann z.B. einen Computer automatisiert alle 24 Stunden neu zu starten. Weiterhin ist es möglich, den Timer auch nur in bestimmten Zeitabständen eintreten zu lassen. Die Zeitabstände werden in Tagen, Wochen und Monaten angegeben.
