The pacing was too quick and sometimes without reason. I'd swear the actor playing Kirk loves to hear himself barking orders. Some parts of the story just seem to fall off into space and ignored or not touched up again.
Then again, I am comparing this mostly to Patrick Stewart (and his crew) and the acting associated with that.
